How to get to Rainbow Mountain from Cusco
There are a couple of ways to get to Rainbow Mountain, but the most recommended are through a full day hike or a brisk hike detailed below. If you first need to get to Cusco, read below.
Full Day Trekking
This is the most popular option when it comes to trekking to Rainbow Mountain Peru – particularly if done with an operator.
Early departure from Cusco is recommended, driving for approximately 3 hours to Pitumarca. Then you have to walk for about 3 hours on the long route, and the short route is about 1 hour approximately, as is the return.
Most operators will have you back at Cusco Plaza at 18:00 pm. This is a great reference if you want to go on your own.
Going on your own
This option is the least recommended, but if the group is 3 to more people, it may be a good option, as taxi rental costs are shared.
Getting from Lima to Cusco
There are two ways to get from Lima to Cusco: by bus or by plane. Taking the flight is the best option, which takes only 1 hour of flight. Instead taking a bus from Lima to Cusco takes 24 hours. The route is not straight, is full of curves that make travelers dizzy easily.
Also, if you buy in advance a plane flight from Lima to Cusco it will cost you less than paying for a bus ticket.
